Pink Movie Review
While watching PINK Movie I got remembered of a scooty advertisement on TV where Priyanka Chopra saying – “Why only boys should have all the fun”, and that’s what PINK is trying to defend. It sadly talks about the biased society where a girl having fun need to pay a price for the same. Although the movie ends with a good note, the gender discrimination remain with our society.
In the last few years there is lots of talk about girl’s safety in the country, especially in Delhi where the film is based. Some rape cases made headlines and people discussed at length about it and solution for the same. Some opined as what a girl should wear and how to behave to avoid such incidences, some reprimanded the boys and suggested them to behave and stay at home. But the situation remains shoddy, girls are not safe. PINK Movie taking clue from these incidents created an intriguing courtroom drama works for the audience. Brilliant performances from the leading ladies (Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang) and Amitabh Bachchan makes it a must watch. The first half takes it own time for making the plot clear, but second half Amitabh Bachchan taking the lead with his court room arguments keep the audiences glued to their seats.
Although the arguments were more theoretical and emotional rather factual where Amitabh Bachchan tries to list out some rules for girls based on oppositions statements making a fun of the biased society and its mentality touches the sentiments of the audiences. Not going through much of the facts and presenting arguments based on emotions was intentional as the filmmakers were not trying just to prove the girls not-guilty but to present the face of the hardcore male chauvinist society. Not having much fact in place, it was expected to have a decision against the girls, but it has been said that considering not hurting the audience sentiments the original climax of boys winning the case was modified at the last moment.
Pink Movie forces you to think the way society looks at girls and feel pity about the same. With persistent gender discrimination with our society, it touches other related points like discrimination with girls from north east state as well with showing one of the leading ladies from Meghalaya.
